High Voltage Array Systems

Seeking step change in cost reduction by raising the array voltage.

Increasing the array voltage is fundamental to unlocking the dramatic cost savings that the next generation of turbines (>15MW) will deliver. The Offshore Wind Accelerator High Voltage Array Systems (OWA Hi-VAS) project aims to build industry consensus to set a global standard for the next array voltage level and to ensure the transition to the next array voltage is made efficiently. Doing so will give clarity to the supply chain, transmission operators and regulatory bodies, to allow them to enact the necessary changes to make the transition to the next array voltage.

The project builds on the success of the Offshore Wind Accelerator’s previous work in raising the array voltage from 33kV to 66kV, where similar industry consensus was reached.
