Why the Carbon Trust?

We are pioneers in low carbon policy advice, having been trusted advisors to the UK government for over 15 years, helping to shape cutting edge policy solutions.

Examples include:

  • EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS): our work on carbon leakage has helped to frame the debate on caps and reforms
  • Renewables incentives: our analysis has been influential in the evolution of the UK’s renewable energy incentive mechanism
  • Green Investment Bank: our thought leadership and analysis was a key input into the creation of the Green Investment Bank, as referenced by the Green Investment Bank Commission
  • Energy efficiency and buildings policy: we developed the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) and developed the concept of minimum buildings standards based on EPCs

Global expertise

Since 2011 we have broadened our advice to international governments, agencies and multilateral development banks (MDBs) across the EU, Central and Latin America, Africa, China and South East Asia.
