The Carbon Trust's Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) programme is seeking proposals from companies and consortia interested to undertake a study for the OWA Foundations Technical Working Group (TWG-F). The New Definitions of Design Gusts project aims to assess and define the limitations and scope of the existing design-gust definitions, to identify necessary updates to current industry standards. Based on these insights, the project would like to develop a proposal for an updated design methodology.

The main objective of this study is to achieve a more accurate understanding of gust behaviour for large rotors, greater or equal to 15MW, and therefore for larger foundation sizes. The impact this has on foundation design will also be assessed. These objectives will be achieved through a comprehensive literature review followed by analysis of offshore measurements.
