Overview

As connectivity underpins nearly every facet of the global economy, the need to transition to Net Zero networks has never been more pressing. A key tool to turn pledges into progress is a climate transition plan.

The Carbon Trust has partnered with the GSMA and ITU to author a standardised framework for operators to develop their own transition plans. This industry-specific guidance includes practical steps, clear disclosure recommendations, and insights into the development process. This will enable telcos to meet best practice disclosure requirements and create a solid foundation for implementation.

The guidance covers:

  • Why this is important: Establishing the rationale for developing a transition plan.
  • What needs to be developed: Detailed considerations across all elements necessary for developing and disclosing a climate transition plan, in alignment with the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) guidance.
  • How to drive the process: Explaining how climate transition planning works in practice.

The guidance has been developed with input from mobile network operators and industry stakeholders, and in consultation with the GSMA Climate Action Taskforce.
