Carbon Trust appoints Mexico Director to lead expansion of mission

The Carbon Trust has appointed Fernando Oléa to lead the organisation’s work in Mexico.  Based in Mexico City Fernando will lead on the establishment of an office and commercial operations in Mexico.  Fernando has joined the Carbon Trust from Mexico’s National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change – INECC – where he was Chief Advisor to the Director General.

Earlier this year Nick Clegg, the UK Deputy Prime Minister, in his visit to Mexico, announced the Carbon Trust’s intention of supporting the Mexican Government to put an ambitious energy efficiency programme for some 150,000 Mexican small businesses into operation over the coming year.   As well as saving $1 billion in reduced energy costs, the Carbon Trust-designed programme will contribute to economic development by increasing competitiveness while cutting carbon emissions by over 6 million tonnes.  Fernando will help lead this important work over the coming months.

The establishment of an office and team in Mexico further builds the Carbon Trust’s presence around the world.  The organisation also has offices in the UK, China, the US and South Africa.

Commenting on the appointment Tom Delay, Chief Executive of the Carbon Trust said:

With a strong presence on the ground led by Fernando we will be able to work with the Mexican Government and businesses helping them take full commercial advantage of the economic opportunities from early action on climate change.”

Fernando Oléa, Mexico Director at the Carbon Trust said:

“Through its climate change bill and strategy, Mexico has set ambitious policies to address climate change. These targets can be achieved alongside positive economic development and the betterment of living conditions. The Carbon Trust has the expertise and experience to support Mexico on its path to a sustainable, low carbon economy. “
