A new Carbon Trust report, looking at how businesses are adapting their business models to survive in a world where resources are coming under increasing strain, was launched at an event at the UK Parliament earlier this week.

Over 100 guests attended the event at the House of Commons on Tuesday 4 February 2014, hosted by Alan Whitehead MP. The report, titled 'Opportunities in a resource constrained world: How business is rising to the challenge', looks at how businesses need to build sustainability into their DNA in order to thrive in a changing environmental and commercial landscape.

James Smith, Chair of the Carbon Trust, and James Wilde, Director of Policy & Innovation, introduced the report, which provides real life examples of how big businesses are building sustainability inside their organisations. The report looks at the opportunities and challenges for UK plc, taking examples from leading companies who are demonstrating particularly successful approaches to the challenge of resource efficiency, to improve efficiency, strengthen long-term resilience, and drive business returns.

Guests at the event included Directors from a number of leading companies and the Rt Hon Caroline Flint MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change.  Attendees were able to speak directly with representatives of the companies profiled in the report – Bord Bia, BT, Stagecoach and Whitbread – sharing insights in how to continue to build sustainability inside their own organisations.
