Offshore Wind Accelerator: Electromagnetic Fender Feasibility Study (EFS)

Calling for entries from companies and consortia interested in undertaking a study for the OWA Logistics and O&M Technical Working Group (TWG-L) that will investigate the feasibility of electromagnetic bow fenders for use on crew transfer vessels (CTVs) operating within the offshore wind industry.

The main objectives of this work are to:

  • Outline the current uses of electromagnets within the maritime industry.
  • Define the electromagnetic power required to safely secure a CTV to a boat landing.
  • Establish if the use of electromagnets in this application is feasible for the use with CTV bow fenders to allow for personnel transfer.

The expected benefits of this work are that it will help to support the industry’s understanding on the feasibility of developing electromagnetic fenders for CTVs.
