Calling for entries from companies and consortia interested in undertaking a study to standardise design and testing/qualification requirements for cable hang-offs for fixed bottom wind farms.
Currently no standards exist that provide sufficient requirements for the design and qualification of cable hang offs.
Each developer is providing their own requirements which doesn’t allow the supply chain to standardise their product, documentation or qualification, which could reduce lead-times, costs and reduce installation/operation risk.
Purchase specific design (i.e., corrosion protection, resin/resin-free, air-tight pressure rating, interface flange etc.) and qualification requirements (pressure test, tensile test (static and/or dynamic), slippage test, etc.) result in added complexity and cost from suppliers, due to developer or project specific design and tests.
The OWA Cables working group has been involved in similar initiatives, such as the Cable Protection Systems (CPS) best practice guideline, which aimed to consolidate industry knowledge and establish consistent requirements for CPS design. This approach has proven effective in enhancing the reliability and effectiveness of cable protection systems, and a similar strategy could be beneficial for cable hang-offs.
