Floating Wind Joint Industry Programme: Prevention of marine growth (PoMG)

Calling for entries from companies and consortia interested in undertaking a study for the design for prevention, handling, and where necessary, potential removal of marine growth on floating wind farms by:

  • Mapping typical marine growth on various types of materials and surfaces, such as but not exclusively: black steel (chains), polyester/nylon/other types of mooring ropes, painted/coated steel surfaces, rubber, dynamic cable and ancillaries and the typical materials associated with them, such as polyethylene and polyurethane. Identifying any variation dependent on geographical locations.
  • Understand how applicable other marine sectors approaches and standards are to Floating wind, such as Oil & Gas.
  • Investigate current standards and where applicable propose new guidelines enabling floating wind assets to be design closer to the limits with respect to loads and other factors caused by marine growth.
  • Provide a realistic overview on the minimum, if any, intervention requirement for marine growth over the lifetime of a floating foundation for wind turbines.
  • Identify technology solutions focusing on passive solutions that reduce marine growth over the lifetime of an asset. Where necessary, inspection and removal of marine growth from subsea structures.
