Join the Carbon Trust team for a webinar discussion on the opportunities for the development of mini-grids in South Africa, covering market drivers, challenges and trends.
Date: 9 February 2017, 11 am - 12 noon (GMT)
With an ageing infrastructure, and increasingly challenging to electrify areas, mini-grids could form a vital element of South Africa’s energy service: accelerating the economical electrification of remote communities, reducing the grid network’s capacity and connection constraints as well as easing the budgetary burden on municipalities.
The Carbon Trust, contracted under the FCO’s Prosperity Fund, has developed a toolkit to support the development of sustainable business models and operational off-grid projects in South Africa. This work has identified a strong potential role for mini-grids in South Africa’s future energy system. The webinar will demonstrate the opportunities presented by this transition, with the aim of raising awareness and stimulating private sector engagement in mini-grids in South Africa.
The webinar will be presented by Carbon Trust experts working in the Policy and Innovations team who worked on the development of the toolkit. The webinar will include a Q&A session so you will have the opportunity to put your questions directly to experts from the Carbon Trust.
