Floating Wind Joint Industry Programme: In-Situ Major Component Replacement Innovation Competition (IMRCI)

Calling for proposals from companies, organisations, individuals and consortia developing innovative in-situ major component replacement solutions for offshore wind turbines. By enabling major components to be repaired or replaced offshore, these solutions and processes could reduce the need to tow floating turbines back to port, helping to minimise turbine downtime, vessel and port requirements, operational complexity and overall maintenance costs. The competition is intended to accelerate the development and deployment readiness of practical, scalable and cost-effective technologies applicable to fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind.

The Floating Wind JIP is seeking solutions that address one or more of the following priority challenge areas:

  • blade and blade-bearing replacement;
  • gearbox and generator replacement for geared turbines; and
  • main-bearing replacement for direct-drive turbines.

Proposals should demonstrate credible maturity, scalability and applicability to current and next generation turbine architecture (15MW+). Selected solution providers may undertake targeted technical de-risking and concept development, prepare validation and testing strategies, and define an evidence-based pathway towards future demonstration and commercial deployment. Full offshore demonstrations are not included within the scope of this competition.

A total of up to £276,000 of funding is anticipated to be available to support up to four shortlisted concepts progressing through subsequent project stages. Successful concepts will not necessarily receive equal funding allocations, and funding levels may be tailored based on solution maturity, identified technical risks and agreed development activities.

The funded project activities are expected to run for approximately seven months.

The deadline for clarification questions is COB 16 October 2026.
