For lower cost, greater scale and long term system value
Offshore wind is central to the global energy transition, and for many countries it also delivers energy security and skilled jobs. The pipeline now spans dozens of countries and continues to grow. Yet the sector is at an inflection point, and cost escalation, supply chain fragility and policy uncertainty are holding back its scale and resilience.
These pressures compound one another. Component designs vary between projects and across geographies, limiting the economies of scale that manufacturing and installation depend on. Grid connection queues, slow environmental and marine approvals and market design that lags behind development add further delay. Where policy direction is unclear, perceived risk rises and with it the cost of capital.
Solving any one of these alone achieves little. We bring the industry together through strategic advice, joint industry programmes and large scale research and development, working with governments, developers and investors to reduce cost and risk while unlocking potential in new markets.
With a global footprint across five continents, we work in both mature and emerging offshore wind markets, including the Americas (the Caribbean, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Canada and the USA), Asia Pacific (Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam), Europe (Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, the UK and Azerbaijan) and Africa (South Africa).
Offshore wind can help reshape energy systems for the long term - strengthening energy security, accelerating decarbonisation and creating the foundations for sustainable economic growth.
Our offshore wind impact stories
Offshore Wind Accelerator
Cost reduction at the scale offshore wind needed could not be achieved by developers working separately. We saw an opportunity to use our independence to bring them together around a shared innovation agenda.
The Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) is our flagship collaborative research, development and deployment programme. Working with nine leading offshore wind developers, it has delivered over 150 projects aimed at reducing cost, overcoming market barriers, developing industry best practice and triggering new industry standards.
The model puts developers at the heart of the innovation agenda, combining our sector expertise with the technical knowledge and resources of industrial partners. Projects are designed to engage innovators and industry stakeholders, supporting the best new ideas on their journey to market.
