Richard Rugg

Richard has over 20 years’ experience working within the climate change sector, leading large teams of experts collectively focussed on accelerating the pace and scale of decarbonisation globally.

Richard’s experience includes the delivery of policy design advice, the development of large-scale energy efficiency and renewable energy programmes, provision of governance, change management and stakeholder engagement expertise; he has successfully led the convening of diverse joint-industry programmes designed to help governments, philanthropy, multi-lateral development banks, corporates, industry, cities and regions to address key challenges related to the Net Zero transition. These programmes are illustrative of Carbon Trust’s systems-wide approach, build on our range of advisory services and have become critical to enabling our clients and partners achieve urgent and ambitious climate action.

Prior to joining the Carbon Trust, Richard worked at Jupiter Unit Trust Managers before moving to the educational charity sector in East Africa where he lived and taught on Mount Kilimanjaro for the Village Education Project Tanzania. He studied Law with Politics at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and holds an MSc Econ in International Politics.
