In his most recent role as Chief Executive of the UK’s Climate Change Committee, Chris led the committee’s independent advice on the UK’s Net Zero target, the world’s first Net Zero target to be legislated.

Chris said:

“I am delighted to lead the Carbon Trust. I want us to be at the heart of the drive for positive climate action alongside businesses, governments and financial institutions. We can help define the opportunities as the transition to Net Zero takes hold.

“Our mission to accelerate the move to a decarbonised future is core to everything I’ve worked towards. It is more relevant and urgent than ever. I can’t wait to get started.“

Working alongside our 400 colleagues across five continents, Chris will head our work, pushing the frontiers of climate action by guiding businesses, governments and financial institutions around the world to accelerate their journey towards Net Zero.

To deliver our mission, Chris will work closely with our leadership team: Hannah McConnachie, General Counsel and Company Secretary; Hilary Hume-Smith, Head of People; Hugh Jones, Managing Director, Corporate Sustainability; Julia Nicoara, Director, Marketing and Communications; Marie O'Dwyer, Finance Director; Michael Rea, Chief Operating Officer; Richard Rugg, Managing Director, Programmes & Innovation; and Simon LeRay-Meyer, Director of IT.

Chair of the Carbon Trust’s board, Julia King, Baroness Brown of Cambridge, said she was delighted to announce Chris’ appointment:

“Chris Stark has been a leader in the climate action space, both within the UK and globally. His approach has always been underpinned by a combination of pragmatism, integrity and openness. This is fully aligned with both the mission and values of the Carbon Trust, making Chris the right person to lead the organisation into its next stage of development.”
