Ben provides consultancy to companies on both ongoing carbon management and long term strategy planning. His work focuses on making the link between climate science and business decision-making, to help corporates deliver commercial outcomes consistent with sustainable growth and development. He is a technical lead on science-based target setting and has worked with companies in the commercial property, insurance, telecoms, food & drink, industrial and retail sectors to develop their targets. He has significant experience in developing strategies for decarbonising global corporate supply chains, including serving as a co-author for the CDP Supply Chain Report 2017.
Ben has developed tools to assess the financial opportunity and risk to companies from a low carbon economic transition. This includes the creation of bespoke decarbonisation scenarios, including models consistent with holding global warming at no more than 1.5°C . He has also supported companies in their response to the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), advising them on effective implementation and disclosure approaches. Ben has also provided assurance services in the green bond market, covering both Second Party Opinions and certification to the Climate Bonds Standard.
Ben holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford. Prior to joining the Carbon Trust, he had a role in corporate finance that included building financial models and performing company valuations, as part of a Mergers & Acquisitions team. He has also previously worked in market intelligence, researching and profiling cleantech SMEs for the investment community.
