Case Study - Bromford Industries

Existing Technology: SON T LIGHTS and 6FT FLUORESCENT TUBES

New Technology: Low Energy Designs Ltd LumiOPTIMA LED 5218 light with built-in PIR providing motion detection, maintained light levels and daylight harvesting. Low Energy Designs Ltd LumiROD LED 414 & 419 lights with an IP rating of 66 and a built-in PIR providing motion detection, maintained light levels and daylight harvesting.

The built-in PIR provides motion detection which has been customised with different settings in different areas of the factory according to Bromford’s requirements. E.g.

1. LED Lights in the main warehouse will turn off after 30 minutes of no movement.

2. In the boiler room the LED lights will turn off after 10 minutes of no movement.

3. A selection of LED lights along the walk way power down to 20% so night shift workers are not in complete darkness.

This increases energy savings even further throughout the year.

Energy Savings: £48,721.31* (*Power & Maintenance)

Carbon Savings: 208.921 tCO2e

Project Payback: 1.4 years

Low Energy Designs Ltd LumiOPTIMA 5218 LED light with built-in PIR providing motion detection, maintained light levels and daylight harvesting.

The built-in PIR provides motion detection and daylight harvesting which has been customised to Marel’s requirements.

E.g. 1. These LED luminaires will dim down to 25% of the original light output after 30 minutes if no motion is detected.

2. These LED luminaires will also alter the light output according to the ambient (natural) light levels.

This increases energy savings even further throughout the year.

Energy Savings: 75%

Carbon Savings: 72%

Project Payback: 2 years

The new lighting is twice as bright as the old, there are no more staff complaints of dim lighting, we are seeing less mistakes made in machine assembly and the energy savings are already being realised so we are on course for payback in two years as promised. On the whole, our experience with Low Energy Designs has been a very good one and I can certainly recommend them.
