The Carbon Trust has established a presence in India by forming a strategic alliance with PKF Group, headquartered in Chennai and with offices in all metro cities in the country.
The alliance will initially be focused on providing sustainability services to Indian companies, working in partnership with the professional services, accounting and consulting firms of the PKF Group, part of the PKF global network of accountancy and professional services firms based in UK.
The Carbon Trust has over fifteen years’ experience working with businesses around the world on measuring and certifying their environmental impacts, setting targets and developing sustainability strategies. This new office means that the Carbon Trust now has staff permanently based in seven countries, with India added to existing locations in the UK, Mexico, Brazil, China, South Africa and the USA.
India has set itself increasingly ambitious goals to build a sustainable economy that helps bring its citizens out of poverty, at the same time as safeguarding the natural environment and creating future prosperity. We are already seeing huge investment into renewable energy and energy efficient technologies. And this is an area where we have for some years been sharing our experience with the Indian government. But we also see a huge opportunity in the corporate market. Indian industries will succeed by harnessing the opportunity in the transition to a sustainable, low carbon economy both domestically and globally. We look forward to working with our partner PKF, one of the most trusted professional services firms working in India today, to help Indian businesses find the commercial value in taking action on climate change and sustainable development.
Myles McCarthy, Director Implementation, The Carbon Trust
As part of its national commitment made under the Paris Agreement on climate change, India has set itself an ambitious target to reduce by 2030 the carbon emissions from a unit of GDP by a third when compared to 2005 levels. The country has also recently stated that it expects to deliver on its 2030 ambition of providing 40 percent of all its electricity needs from renewable energy three years early.
In our constant endeavour to be of pioneering service to our esteemed clientele, we believe that environmental advisory and facilitation services in transforming entities to become climate conscious and commercially viable are the future needs of Corporate India. We also consider this diverse field of service as one of our several initiatives we undertake to uphold our constant commitment to social and public causes in the region. We are hence delighted to be working in collaboration with a world-leading and trusted expert in sustainable strategies, the Carbon Trust, and look forward to providing these services to Indian companies.
