Building a Sustainable Energy Economy

On the occasion of the State Visit of the President of Mexico to the United Kingdom in honour of the Dual Year, the Carbon Trust arranged a special session in Aberdeen on the opportunities of Building a Sustainable Energy Economy in the UK and in Mexico.  This was a select roundtable discussion building on a dialogue initiated in Campeche, Mexico in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales in November 2014, and was held in conjunction with the UK Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Mexican Government.

James Smith, Chair of the Carbon Trust, chaired the session, alongside Undersecretary Leonardo Beltrán of SENER, the Mexican Government’s Ministry of Energy, to explore how the UK and Mexico can successfully meet their mutually ambitious carbon reduction targets and make the transition to a low carbon energy system.

The aim of the roundtable was to debate areas of future co-operation through knowledge and technology transfer that will help each nation reach its goals. A broad range of experts contributed to the discussion including senior figures from industry, leading academics and representatives from the UK and Mexican Governments.

A Communiqué between the UK and Mexico has been agreed, which will help inform discussions and collaboration between our two nations.
