Water efficient customers have helped Anglian Water become the first water company in the world to achieve the Carbon Trust’s Water Standard - and the company's staff have been trained to become assessors for customers who want to work toward the Standard.

Water efficient customers have helped Anglian Water become the first water company in the world to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard for Water. The company put the lowest amount of water into supply for over 25 years in 2012/13, despite a 20% growth in population in that time. They achieved this by driving down leakage, encouraging more customers to switch to water meters and through targeted initiatives and campaigns.

Having gained the Water Standard, Anglian Water Business, the organisation’s dedicated business-to-business arm, has now trained its staff to become assessors for customers who also want to work toward the Standard. This is the first partnership of its kind between the Carbon Trust and a third party who is actively promoting the Standard to their customers.

Helping customers to reduce water use not only saves money but has carbon benefits too, especially when water is chilled, heated or pumped. Understanding and managing water use also allows businesses to manage water risks and maintain a sustainable business operation in an increasingly water scarce world.
