Calling for entries from companies and consortia interested in undertaking a study for the OWA Electrical Systems Technical Working Group (TWG-E) that will investigate the capabilities of offshore wind farms operating in islanded and black start mode.
With the increased penetration of non-synchronous generation in the transmission system, there is an need to develop systems and technologies which can keep offshore wind farms operating during islanded & black-start scenarios.
The expected benefits of this work are to enable self-reliant operation of WPPs, which is essential for wind power to contribute actively in maintaining system stability without relying on services from convention synchronous generation; and enable islanding capabilities that reduce auxiliary requirements during system outage.
