Offshore Wind Accelerator Tender: Fault Location and Condition Monitoring in Long Offshore Cables (FLOC)

Call for entries from companies and consortia interested to undertake a study looking at innovative fault location and condition monitoring systems for long (>100km) offshore cables.

The successful contractor will assess the capabilities and limitations of both established and emerging fault detection and condition monitoring technologies. A comparison should be carried out of the different technologies and recommendations made for further investigation of promising technologies. The project will assess whether combinations of two or more technologies would provide a more comprehensive fault detection and cable monitoring system. Both online & offline systems should be assessed, but with particular focus on online systems or systems with the potential for online capability.

Another objective for this project is the definition of a methodology for site tests that would rigorously test the capabilities and accuracy of different technologies.
