Brad Duncan

Brad joined the Carbon Trust in 2015 as General Counsel & Company Secretary and is responsible for all legal issues affecting the group’s global business. Brad has also advised on the development of the Carbon Trust’s green bond assurance business and was part of the team accredited by the Climate Bonds Initiative to verify green bonds. That team has worked for issuers such as Barclays and the Government of Mexico City. Brad is a member of the Committee on Climate Change Working Group on Finance and a Legal Response Initiative, providing advice to developing countries in UNFCCC negotiations.

Brad is a qualified solicitor, admitted in both NSW, Australia and England. After working at King & Wood Mallesons in Sydney he moved to the UK in 2001, joining the Structured Finance Group at Linklaters. There Brad advised on securitisations, CDOs and project bonds, mainly for financial institutions such as Citi, RBS, Macquarie and Credit Suisse. He also advised utilities and corporates on structured bond financings, with clients including Southern Water, South East Water and Greene King. While at Linklaters he completed secondments to RBS and Credit Suisse.

In 2006 Brad joined the CIB legal team at Citi as the principal lawyer for the structured finance business, advising on residential mortgage, auto loan, credit card and commercial real estate securitisations. From 2008 Brad also advised on bond restructurings and was the principal lawyer for the Special Situations and Structured Solutions groups in addition to his existing role. In that capacity he advised on bank resolutions, including for Bank of Ireland, Northern Rock (now Virgin Money), as well as two of the largest Greek Banks. Brad was Chair of the International Capital Markets Association Securitisation Forum between 2009 and 2014.
