To achieve the Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon you will need to meet three criteria:
You will need to submit your application for review by an independent assessor using the following tools:
The Carbon Trust Standard carbon footprint spreadsheet (.xls) can be used to record your organisation's carbon footprint and the reduction in this footprint over time. The methodology has been developed for the Carbon Trust Standard and follows the principles outlined in the GHG protocol, with all carbon emissions calculated using government-produced emissions factors (in the UK factors published by Defra are used).
Use the assessment form (.doc) to document whether your organisation meets the required carbon management standards. In order to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon an overall score of at least 60% is required in this section.
Assessment - During initial discussions you will choose one of two types of assessment:
Certification only: If you have a simple footprint, all the information and evidence to support your application and can complete your own assessment form.
Assisted certification: If you think you need some help in collating and presenting the data and completing the assessment form then we can provide some additional support. The assessor will spend more time working with you to help in completing the assessment form as well as assessing compliance with the Standard.
In both services an independent assessor will assess your organisation's carbon reduction activities against the Standard. This assessment will include visiting your organisation, and verifying the evidence contained in the application
Moderation - If the assessor believes your organisation meets the Standard, the assessor will pass your application for moderation. Independent moderators will review each assessment to verify the conclusions.
Certification - On successful assessment Carbon Trust Certification will certify your organisation, division or site and award your organisation with a certificate. Your organisation will then be able to use the Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon logo to prove your performance in cutting carbon emissions.

Assessment Criteria and Process
To achieve Carbon Trust ‘Measured’ status you will need to meet the footprint measurement criteria of the Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon methodology. During the assessment process, an independent assessor will review your carbon footprint data. The carbon footprint must have been measured accurately and comply with international best practice in carbon accounting. This assessment will include visiting your organisation, and verifying the evidence contained in the application.
On successful assessment Carbon Trust Certification Limited will issue a verification letter, providing details of your verified footprint. Your organisation will then be able to use the Carbon Trust Measured logo to prove the credibility of your carbon footprint.
Whether you are submitting data to CDP or preparing your annual report, independent verification will add authority to your carbon disclosure.
The cost of verification depends on the energy bill of your organisation and the complexity of your footprint. Our account managers would be pleased to give you a quote.
