About us
The Carbon Trust was set up in 2001 by the UK government as an independent company. Our worldwide mission is to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy.
We deliver on our mission by working with businesses and public sector organisations to reduce carbon emissions today and develop commercially viable low carbon technologies that will reduce carbon emissions in the future.
To do this we bring together public and private funding and encourage cross sector partnerships, so for every £1 of public money we spend in the UK we attract a further £7 from the private sector.
Since our inception we have helped our UK customers to save over 17 million tonnes of CO2 which equates to costs savings of over £1 billion.
Outside the UK there have been a number of exciting developments. For example in July 2008 the Carbon Trust and the State of Florida announced an agreement to share expertise on low carbon innovation and investment and jointly develop strategies to attract low carbon industry to the UK and Florida. In September 2008 we began work in China announcing a partnership with the China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation (CECIC) to explore opportunities to reduce carbon emissions in China.
As a Company Limited by Guarantee, any profits we make are reinvested to help deliver our mission.
